Mitch Booth, an Australian olympic sailor helmed America’s Cup craf who has overseen the build of multihulls over the past 40 years, and well renowned yacht designer Malcolm McKeon worked together on the creation of a new brand of luxury catamarans named BlackCat.
McKeon commented the birth of this exciting project: “There’s been a space in the market for some time for a large catamaran design that can offer the luxury and quality of a superyacht this size, and also provide this level of stability and high performance.”
The first model unveiled by the newly created brand is a 50-metre concept. Living spaces on board cover 340 square metres: the wide beam and open spaces make the first BlackCat concept the ideal yacht for family and friend entertainment. The layout and interior design will be further detailed and customized according to the clients’ wishes.
“It’s a logical progression for superyacht designs to move towards catamarans,” said Booth. “There are so many advantages to large multihull cruising compared to our monohull cousins, such as speed, space, low heel, comfort, the list goes on and on.”
