One hundred years of Cantieri Navali Campanella

Cantieri Navali Campanella (today Mondomarine), established on September 14^th, 1915, are now a hundred years old. Theirs is a story deserving to be recalled.
Since the very beginning, the shipyard would work on a wide range of activities, from reparation to transformation and naval building, with a flexible approach which increased in the years to come. For decades, the main source of work for Campanella was the maintenance of mercantile ships dwelt in Savona port for commercial reasons, but it was also able to take part to projects aimed to dry land when such activity was not engaging the whole shipyard potential.
During the Second World War, Campanella enhanced the improvement of Navy’s warships: soon after the war, its energies were absorbed by the reconstruction of damaged buildings and equipments and in the renewal of the Italian merchant fleet. The Fifties was the decade of the ‘naval surgery’, meaning complex and demanding repairing of damaged ships or either transformation projects: this activity soon became one of the most involving and important for the shipyard’s business.
Further enlargement and modernization of the shipyard was completed by 1977, when Campanella was fully equipped for new challenges such as entering the yacht building field. Only two years after a 48 metres yacht, the Mohamedia,  was awarded with a special prize by Lloyd’s Register for being an icon in terms of quality and modernity: since then the shipyard has been collecting great success.
The shipbuilding crisis of the Eighties and the Nineties hit Cantieri Navali Campanella as well as the whole market, but the shipyard was able to keep active and to slowly recover from the austerity it had to face. In the early nineties the yacht field was the one on which the production focused the most: custom made yachts over 40 metres in aluminum alloy and steel were built in the yard and signed by Mondomarine.
A strong restructuring and relaunch of the company has been promoted since 2013: Mondomarine also acquired Cantieri di Pisa and today the yard employs over three hundred people and has five 40 to 60 metre vessels under construction.
To celebrate its 100^th anniversary, the Italian shipyard will be hosting a gala at their Savona facilities, during which the latest Mondomarine 42 metre superyacht will be launched. Soon after the launch, the vessel will be also shown at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show.
