Legend, 77.4-metre explorer yacht cruising to Antartica

legendThe refitted 77.4-metre explorer yacht Legend has recently had her latest voyage to Antarctica.
Built in 1974 by the IHC Holland shipyard, the ship was refitted and upgraded by Icon Yachts into an icebreaking passenger ship and launched back in March this year.
Diana Yacht Design redesigned her exterior as well as her naval architecture, while Thom Beerens and Jan Verkerk restyled all interior design: the transformation was undertaken by ICON Yachts.
Work done to complete her upgrade include the lengthening of her stern by 3.6 metres, the redesign of her superstructure and the rebuilt of her mast. Her hull was repainted in elegant dark grey, which will make her visible during voyages to the arctic regions. Cranes were added to the vessel to allow for efficient lifting of different tenders and water toys, among which a submarine is also included. The aft deck was converted into a helicopter deck. Accommodation onboard is provided for 26 guests across 13 cabins, for a crew of 19 and for an additional 10 extra expedition crew.
The vessel is powered by Smit-Bolnes engines, allowing for a top speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots. Legend is available for charter from €460,000 per week in Southern America in the winter and Northern Europe in the summer.
